BRAKES ACTING STRANGE

Problem - When starting the car cold, it takes 45 seconds for the brakes to work. The brakes have nothing at all. After 45 seconds, the brakes work. When backing out, I have to almost stand on the brakes to get them to stop.

Possibility 1 - It sounds like a pinched vacuum line going to the brake booster or it could be a bad check valve.

Possibility 2 - After the car is warmed up and everything is fine, pull over and shut the engine off. Hit the brakes 5 times until the pedal gets very stiff again. Start the car and quickly test the brakes again. The pedal should be soft less than 1 second of the engine restarting. That will eliminate if it is a cold start problem. Try coasting down a quiet road and apply the brakes quickly and lightly several times to see if the pedal pressure remains consistent. If the pedal becomes unacceptably firm, it might be a vacuum supply problem to the booster. If all seems well when the car is warmed up, I would be looking at the check valve. I have heard of them sticking shut when cold on other cars.

Possibility 3 - Take it to a mechanic and get this seen to. It could be the start of your brakes failing while you are driving. Even better, get the car towed to the mechanic.

What Our Member's Are Saying

"I have spent hours looking for fixes for my Lambo and here it is in one website. Great value for money and very easy to use." Charles Wigins

"Fantastic concept and the information is very well set out. Every model for the one price is brilliant. I fixed my problem by searching another model." Tyler Mendo

"I have recently sold my Countach but I would like to give a big shout out to the one person who has been collating this information for many years and has made this website a winner. Jason is a handicapped man who is the driving force behind this website. I met Jason and his brother by accident at a car event in Australia. Even though he will never drive a car, he sure knows how to drive the internet. Well done Jason and keep up the good work." Mark W
