SPEEDOMETER READING WRONG
Problem - My speedometer is reading wrong. Why?
Possibility 1 - All vehicles from factory have a percentage of error to meet transport authority regulations. The regulation is 10% either way but more vehicles seem to be under than over.
There are many reasons why the speedometer reading is off. Tyres of a different size or with different air pressure than what was on the vehicle when the speedometer was originally calibrated or the manufacturer deliberately calibrating the speedometer to 10% more or less. GPS speedometers can be inaccurate if you can't get a clear signal from the satellites.
A speedometer that is not accurate should be re-calibrated. This process should be done by a qualified mechanic. A mechanical speedometer is re-calibrated by using gears with different numbers of teeth to get a more accurate reading. In electronic speedometers, the vehicle is re-calibrated using the vehicle's computer and a scan tool.
