AXLE SEAL HOUSING

Problem - Hi can anyone tell me whats the trick to removing the right hand side axle seal housing? The left side was relatively easy. Firstly I removed the axle itself, then the boss that bolts to the axle with four hex bolts and it has one centre nut that connects it to the gearbox itself. When you remove the boss it allows you to remove the axle seal housing that also has the big bearing in it. On the right side, I removed the boss same as the left side, but it seems like something inside the gearbox is holding the axle seal housing and bearing. There was a huge circlip which I removed but this made no difference. It is moving approx 5mm but won't come out.

Possibility - If you ever have to replace your axle seals on your Jalpa yourself, the left and right side both have an identical looking housings for the axle seals. But there is a slight difference on the face of the right side. On the left side you must remove the housing from the gearbox and using a press, remove the large bearing in front of the axle seal to get to the seal itself. On the right side, you do not remove the housing. The seal just pops out with a little help of the screw driver. The new seal just pushes in and gently tapped into place. The right side housing is actually pressed onto a centre bearing and held in place with a large circlip. I nearly made the fatal mistake of removing it because if I had there was no way it would go back in with the gearbox in the car. It would need to be pressed on again.

"I have spent hours looking for fixes for my Lambo and here it is in one website. Great value for money and very easy to use." Charles Wigins

"Fantastic concept and the information is very well set out. Every model for the one price is brilliant. I fixed my problem by searching another model." Tyler Mendo

"I have recently sold my Countach but I would like to give a big shout out to the one person who has been collating this information for many years and has made this website a winner. Jason is a handicapped man who is the driving force behind this website. I met Jason and his brother by accident at a car event in Australia. Even though he will never drive a car, he sure knows how to drive the internet. Well done Jason and keep up the good work." Mark W
